Actual Images of Birth Certificates - Marriage Records - Death Certificates - Tombstones of Currituck County, N.C.

If this is your first visit to this website, please read the information on this page before you proceed.  It will help you to better understand why and how this website was set-up.

This project is a joint effort by Judy Merrell Brickhouse [sesdvs@embarqmail.com] and Benjamine O. Bateman Jr. [benbateman@verizon.net].  In the past we were aware of the cemeteries and individual graves that were unmarked in the county; and, the numerous small private cemeteries in fields that were being neglected and slowly being destroyed by farmers.  Today, our primary concern is with the overwhelming development of Currituck County; and, the cemeteries that are currently being severely damaged, destroyed,  and/or slowly disappearing without anyone's knowledge or concern.  Our goal is to record the existing cemeteries by means of digital photography before more destruction occurs and the tombstones no longer exist.  Our secondary concern is with all of the inaccurate information that is being published and sold today for profit.  If you wish to make photo submissions, inform us of any corrections, notify us of any Afro-American cemeteries or Native American ossuaries, please contact us.  We hope you enjoy this website and would appreciate your comments and feedback.

Initially, this website was created to provide you with digital photographs of tombstones within Currituck County.  Since the North Banks was a part of Currituck County until 1870 when Dare County was formed, cemeteries that are currently in Dare County will be included on this website as being in Dare County.  In addition, until recently there were no public cemeteries within Currituck County.  The public cemeteries were located in Pasquotank County.  Since many of the Currituck residents were buried in Pasquotank County, their tombstones may be included on this website.

We have expanded our website to include Birth Certificates, Death Certificates, and Marriage Records.  Since a lot of information is contained on these documents, we have created a Surname Master List for your convenience.  It will include the person's name, his/her relationship, the available record, and the name of the person that appears on the record with a link to the actual record.  The Surname Master List is an excellent place to begin your search since some documents ONLY appear on this list and not elsewhere on this website.

Please note that the marriage records in Marriage Book B consists of two large pages which can be viewed from the Marriage Records and the Surname Master List.  If you try to print a copy from either the Marriage Records or the Surname Master List, you will either print only a portion of the left side or the print will be too small to read.  Therefore a Marriage Book B Print Table has been created for your convenience.  This Print Table can be accessed from either the Marriage Records or the Surname Master List.  However, only the Surname Master List will provide you with the appropriate page numbers.  They will appear in the column "Other" as [Print Table] PT XXX & XXX.  It is recommended that you read the information contained on the Print Table.

For most people the actual cemetery name will not have any significant meaning, especially since many cemeteries will have the same surname.  Since some of the communities are small and near each other, they have been combined.  Although each cemetery has been assigned a number, the name of the cemetery will appear on that cemetery's index.  The names on each index have been sorted and listed alphabetically for your convenience.  Each cemetery has a link to a page called "Cemetery Information" that includes an overview photo of the cemetery, the GPS coordinates, the general location, and directions to the cemetery.

For ease of research, please note the following:

1.  Any cemetery that no longer exists, will have an asterisk before the number.
2.  Any known Afro-American cemeteries will be assigned a number starting with 201.
3.  Any known Native American Ossuaries will be assigned a number starting with 401.

The Cemetery Master List is a combined list of all the names in each individual cemetery.  If you are looking for a tombstone, the Cemetery Master List is the easiest way to begin your search.  The names have been sorted and listed alphabetically for your convenience and shows the cemetery number with a link to that individual's tombstone.  Although each individual cemetery index will list any "unknown" graves and/or tombstones, including what appears to be pet graves, they will not be included on the master list.

You can save, print, or e-mail all of the images on this website by putting your pointer on the image.  At the top left of the image a tool bar will appear that will allow you to save, print, or e-mail the image.  At the bottom right of some images a button will appear that will allow you to enlarge the image.  Left click on the button and the image will automatically enlarge for easy viewing.  In addition, all of the images that appear on this website can be saved to disk by right clicking on the image and selecting "Save Picture As".

No part of this website may be used for any commercial purposes.
